Just to play this game, I ended up spending $900+ (PC, 640k RAM, & TV/VGA adapter).
I knew nothing about compatibility issues, VGA graphics/monitors, RAM upgrades, etc. I saw this game a local computer shop & fell in love! I literally bought my 1st IBM compatible PC (A Tandy EX 1000), specifically to play Empire! Previously I had a Vic20 & C64 which anybody who's ever had 1 knows that you simply hook up to any TV, pop in a disk, & play. I started out with Empire - Wargame of the Century, (198 Interstel Corporation, for IBM PC. It wasn't actually this/C64 version, although I WISH I had known it was ALSO available for C64 (I'll explain). Empire is the game that introduced me to & is responsible for my nearly 25 year long love of strategy/war games.
